5 Questions to Ask Before Installing Carpet in Maryland

Giving your home a fresh new look may be as simple as going down to your local Maryland flooring store and buying new carpet. As you search through carpet samples in a showroom you have many things to consider.

Do you want a Berber carpet with a low nap? Do you want a neutral color or one with vibrant color? Once you make your choice and purchase the carpet, you are ready to schedule a date for installation.

Before the professional installers arrive to finish the carpet installation, Maryland homeowners should find the answers to some important questions so there will be no unpleasant surprises on the day the job is done.

1. What is the cost of installation?

The cost of installation can significantly add to the total cost of your new carpet. When you purchase your carpeting, you should also go over the details of the installation. A good Maryland flooring company will not quote you a price on installation without first asking you some questions.

The cost per square foot of carpet is just one component that factors into the price for professional installation. Common reasons why the cost to install your new carpeting may be more than you thought include:

  • Having to remove old carpeting or prepare the subfloor
  • Having to remove and then replace all of the baseboards
  • Moving and replacing furniture
  • More complicated installations such as carpeting stairs or circular-shaped rooms
  • Installing a marble threshold to transition between surfaces and different rooms

Luckily, at Contract Carpet One we do NOT charge extra for moving furniture, removing old carpets, or installing carpet in odd-shaped rooms. In fact, all of those items are included in our installation costs. The Beautiful Guarantee also provides you with peace of mind. If you don’t like your new floors, we’ll take them out for FREE!

2. Can you hide the seams?

A standard roll of carpeting is usually either 12 or 15 feet wide. Unless all of the rooms that you want carpeted are less than 15 feet wide, you will wind up with seams. Professional installers are very good at hiding seams. They will usually cut the carpet so the seams are not right down the middle of the room. They also do an excellent job of matching pieces of carpeting that have a pattern or design. According to the World Flooring Covering Association, you can decrease the visibility of seams by choosing certain colors and textures of your carpet. In addition, your seams can be made less visible by the lighting and furniture placement in your home.

3. Can you transition between all different surfaces?

Professional installers can make the transition between carpet and any other surface very smooth and appealing to the eye. There are good solutions for making the transition from wood, tile, linoleum, or any other type of flooring that runs adjacent to your carpeting.

4. How can I get a carpet that is easy on the feet?

Padding under your carpet provides the cushion you feel under your feet. Quality padding will not only make your feet happier, but it also can help extend the life of your carpet. While you might pay a little more for top-of-the-line padding, the benefits are worth the extra expense. Contract Carpet One offers the Healthier Living Installation for premiere comfort and reduced allergens.

5. Can I walk on the carpet as soon as it is installed?

Unlike installing a tile floor where the tiles need time to set up and the grout needs time to dry, you can walk on your new carpet immediately after it is installed. You may notice a new carpet smell and see a few loose fibers, but opening the windows and vacuuming will take care of those little problems in no time at all.

Knowing what to expect when the Maryland carpet installers come to your house will help avoid any unpleasant surprises. While you should have the answers to most of your questions before the installation begins, if you have another question, feel free to run it by a member of the installation team.
